University of Limerick (UL) Sports

UL prides itself on being Irelands ‘sporting campus’. Huge investments have been made over the years in sporting infrastructure and as a result, facilities are world-class. The college has over 50 sports clubs, ranging from surfing to soccer to skydiving, and all are extremely well-funded, with excellent equipment available to members and subsidised trips for all. The college sports centre boasts an Olympic-sized swimming pool, overlooked by a huge gym that spans the length of the pool. The main sports hall consists of four wood-sprung courts, with an indoor running track dramatically suspended in the air around them. The building also houses the National Strength and Conditioning Centre, where Irish and Musnster rugby teams often train!). There are also exercise studios and sauna/steam room facilities in the building.

Outside, there’s a running track with track and field sports facilities. There are an incredible amount of rugby, soccer, GAA, all-weather, and hockey fields surrounding the sports centre. UL is also home to Ireland’s only indoor rowing tank, and the largest singular bank of synthetic grass, sprung sports fields in the European Union. The clubs also make use of the Shannon flowing through the college, with boathouses located on the river, housing the watersports clubs.
