Why did you choose your course?

Choosing my course was easy as i had wanted to do event management for so long and as i am a single mother travelling outside of galway was not an option, when GMIT started the event management course i was delighted as i had heard about many of my friends experiences from the college at GMIT

Are you happy with your choice of course?

On reflection, what made it the right or wrong choice for you?

It was definitely the right course for me as all my modules are so interesting and my lecturers for each module are so interesting also and have great methods of teaching, i look forward to all my classes and look forward to starting new ones in the future

What are your favourite aspects of your course?

i really enjoy Introduction to Event Management, i find our lecturer brilliant, we do practical work in the bar, 5* service restaurant and front of house, i chose tourism as my elective and love it, we have had field trips and have brought to places i never knew even existed in Ireland. there is a lot of volunatary placement available during my time at GMIT which i think is brilliant to have behind me when i go out to look for a career in the event management field in years to come.

What are your least favourite aspects of your course?

The only thing i found difficult on returning to college as a mature student was Business Maths as i havent done maths in 8 years but like that our lecturer offers great help and quizzes on her moodle page!!

Was your course what you expected?

What do you wish you had known before choosing this course?

i found the GMIT prospectus covered most of what i wanted to know about the course and people were available to speak to on the opening day also

there is wide range of books, e-books and journals to choose from for research,if there is a book etc; you need and it is not available the library will get it for you for example, i needed a book for an assignment and it was in the castlebar campus and the library was able to get it to me after one day!! also there are group study rooms available which me and class mates have already availed of!!

Is there a good social life on your course?

Please describe

Our class is made up of 40 students and there are a good bunch of mature students too, we all get on great and help eachother out, i was voted as class rep which i was delighted as i thought being a mature student the majority of the class may have wanted an 18 year old!!! i arranged the class party and we all had a great night, every one gets on with everyone...age doesnt even come into it....
