Are you happy with your choice of course?

I feel my course is informative and interesting. My lecturers present the material in manner to most relate to their students and this makes the lectures enjoyable and the material engaging.

How many hours of organised classes do you have per week? (labs, tutorials, lectures, etc)

Are your lectures/labs mainly based on or off the main campus?

If off campus, does this affect you and how?

I have very few lectures off campus. The lectures that I do attend off campus are very easy to get to. Most buildings and lecture halls that are off campus are within 5 minutes walking distance of the main campus. There are also plenty of spaces to leave bicycles at the off campus buildings.

End of year exams

Is there an option to study abroad on your course?

If you studied abroad, is there any advice you would give someone looking to study abroad?

Yes I studied in Germany for one year. The best advice I could give to anyone looking to study abroad is to be open minded. Consider going somewhere different. Look at your area of study in a completely different light. See how your future area of expertise is approached in a different country. And, of course, have fun.

What are your favourite aspects of your course?

I enjoy everything about my course. The lectures are informative, the lecturers are genuinely interested in their area and are willing to help any student and the facilities in the college are fantastic. The class parties are good fun too :)

What are your least favourite aspects of your course?

I can honestly say that I like everything about my course although I would appreciate a few less early mornings.

Was your course what you expected?

What do you wish you had known before choosing this course?

Nothing really springs to mind. Perhaps the opportunity to talk to an older student who is already doing the course would be helpful but the vast majority of the course information is available on the college website which is very easy to use.

Helpful leaving cert (or equivalent) subjects?

A language is always helpful particularly if you want to study abroad for a year or two. It really depends on what area you wish to specialise in but, if you are not yet sure, I would recommend playing it safe with a science and business subject.

Library facilities

The library facilities are amazing. All relevant and necessary books and materials are stocked in abundance. The computer suites are fantastic and the computers run incredibly fast for the amount of information stored on them. The library staff are also very well trained and are eager to answer any questions.

Is there a good social life on your course?

Please describe

My class regularly organises class parties. Class parties are a fantastic way to let off steam and are the best way to make friends on your course. These friends will then be there to help with assignments and other course specific issues. Then there is college organised events that involve the entire college coming together usually to raise money for a worthy charity. These always prove to be some of the best dates in the college calendar.

Are you an active member of any societies?

What society are you a member of?

I am a member of the computer and surfing society.

Why do you enjoy being a member of this society? why should a prospective student think of joining this society?

I really enjoy it. It’s far more sociable than playing games on your playstation or computer at home alone. You met new people and there are often parties for the members. There are also several surfing trips away each semester.

Are you a member of any sports clubs?

Please choose your sport(s) club

Yes I play Gaelic football and soccer with the college.

Are your training facilities easily accessible?

Are your training facilities at a good standard?

Do you feel that you are playing at a standard that matches your ability?

Would you recommend getting involved in college sport?

Weekly living expenses?

Do you or have you lived away from home during college?

How much does your rent cost per month?

As a first year did you live in college halls?

Would you recommend living in college halls?

I wasn’t familiar with Galway before I began to study here so I decided that it would be best to stay somewhere that was specifically catered for students and would have plenty of people who were in the exact same boat as me. Glasan was the perfect choice as it is full of first years and allowed me to meet new people. The friends I made in Glasan are the friends I live with now.

Where would you recommend students live?

Student accommodation.

If yes, where and why?

If you did not want to live in student accommodation there are several housing estates in close proximity to collage. But these require a bit more hard work to get them, so get there early at the end of summer.

How would you recommend this college to a friend?

Yes GMIT is amazing. There is a vast amount of courses on offer, the lecturers are experts in their fields, the location is perfect and the college facilities are some of the best in the country. The clubs are societies are well run and are very sociable. And, of course, there is always something new, interesting and entertaining going on in Galway.
