Why did you choose to study this course?

I went through a few stages when deciding to do engineering. I knew I enjoyed maths and science subjects in secondary school. From there I looked at my own personal traits and I said I am quite analytical and that works well with my problem solving skills. Then it seemed obvious that I choose an engineering course. Then of course, I had to choose what type of engineering I would study. I chose mechanical engineering rather than the other types of engineering because I found it was the basis of all the other engineering courses and that if I chose to branch out into say for example aeronautical or biomedical I could do so from mechanical. This was a great thing for me because after leaving certificate, I couldn't tell you what form of engineering I would like to work in. To be honest I am two years in and I am still unsure but thats the great thing about engineering that it is so broad that I don't need to choose at the moment and that for me is a very big selling point for engineering.

Are you happy with your choice of course?

I think I have made a good decision. I am doing a lot of interesting subjects which I apply my interests in maths and science to real life problems and I come up with solutions. I am happy I chose engineering because I am studying modules I find very interesting and I have so many careers that lead from engineering to choose from I am spoilt for choice :)

How many hours of organised classes do you have per week?

Are your lectures/labs mainly based on or off the main campus?

Is your course weighted more on continuous assessment or end of year exams?

End of year exams

What are your favourite aspects of your course?

I love how most of my exams are calculations based rather than theory.. Of course there is theory as well but there is always some calculations in every exam and I much prefer that then to essay style questions.

What are your least favourite aspects of your course?

On a personal level, I really don't like studying computer programming that leads to automation. I just don't understand it totally and can find it quite difficult at times but in saying that other would probably but that as their favourite aspect.
