Why did you choose to study in this course?

I have always wanted to become a civil engineer since i was a kid. Buildings and structures fascinate me . Although there is a recession at the moment i followed my dream.

Are you happy with your choice of course?

Yes

On reflection, what made it the right or wrong choice for you?

i do not regret in choosing the course. the lecturer are very good. friends are very helpul and most of all the course is based on programme based learning which means we get to build what we designed. On the first year we built timber bridge and in second year we built a two storey timber tower. every thing gets better and better each year.

How many hours of organised classes do you have per week?

30+hrs

Are your lectures/labs mainly based on or off the main campus?

On

Is your course weighted more on continuous assessment or end of year exams?

Continuous assessment

Is there an option to study abroad on your course?

I don't know

What are your favourite aspects of your course?

programme based learning. we get to build what we design whether it be bridge or tower. it's very exciting fun and adventorous but educational at the same time. you learn so much from it that the lecture alone.

What are your least favourite aspects of your course?

long hours. Once you start the assement or start studying time flies so fast u dont really mind those extra hours after few weeks into college. it becomes part of your life.

Was your course what you expected?

Yes

What do you wish you had known before choosing this course?

only thinng i regret is not doing chemistry in leaving cert. i wish i had researched more about the course during secondary school especially during 5th year while choosing the subjects. I would have chosen chemistry instead of art. i would say definitely go to the open days starting from 4th year. it helps you a lot in choosing the right subject during secondary school that will prepare you for the course you're doing in college.

Why?

it has vast number of books related to the course. the online database is very good if you want to access books from your home. staffs are very friendly. it is very easy to find the books in library and also self service makes it a lot easier while borrowing the book.

Rate your course in terms of difficulty

Difficult

Please rate your course in terms of workload

Are you an active member of any societies?

No

Are you a member of any sports clubs?

No

Would you recommend getting involved in college sport?

i would get involved in architectural society. some of the modules we do in the first year are architectural modules. also we get to travel alot.

How much do you spend on living every week (going out, food, transport etc.), excluding rent and bills?

40-60

Do you or have you lived away from home during college?

No

Would you recommend living in College Halls?

Yes

Would you recommend living in College Halls Why?

i haven't lived in any of the student village but i did live in the accommodation during orientation week for a week . it is very near to the college and we do get breaks alot i.e we'll have one class at 9 am and the other class would start at 12 or 11 or may be 2 sometimes. it is very handy if you are living on campus . you can just go home and relax instead of staying in the library.

If yes, where and why?

too far away from college. it's just not worth it unless you dont mind long hours. comming into college for 9 am in the morning is pain in the ass if you're living too far away.

How would you recommend this college to a friend?

the freedom you get. there is nobody telling you what not to do. you are your own boss.

What advice would you give to somebody coming to ULknowing nobody?

don't be stressed about anything.Once you start the college you will have friends in no time. every one is very friendly and always up for a good laugh. By the end of first week you wouldn't want to go home for weekend.
