Why did you choose your course?

I first took a year out because I wasn't sure what I wanted to do and during that year I applied for music as my first choice because it was the only thing I could imagine to study and enjoy at the same time. I wouldn't have been able to study anything that I didn't love as I'm not career driven.

Are you happy with your choice of course?

Yes

On reflection, what made it the right or wrong choice for you?

I'm mostly happy with my course, although I'm not sure if it is the 'right' course for me but its as close as it gets. I enjoy it because I'm realising how much there is to learn about music theory and history, which I never would have learned had I not studied music.

How many hours of organised classes do you have per week? (labs, tutorials, lectures, etc)

11-15hrs

Are your lectures/labs mainly based on or off the main campus?

On

Is your course weighted more on

Continuous assessment

Is there an option to study abroad on your course?

Yes

What are your favourite aspects of your course?

My favourite aspect so far has been getting an introduction to all the different fields of music i.e. technology, musicology, composition etc. and now continuing on with the parts we enjoyed the most.

What are your least favourite aspects of your course?

The music analysis part of my course is given too much importance and I believe that there are more important aspects of music.

Was your course what you expected?

Yes

What do you wish you had known before choosing this course?

I wish that I had known that it is a huge advantage if you have played in an orchestra. It would help for so many modules such as history, orchestration, harmony, and loads more.

Why?

For the most part I think its great. I like the way its organized, you get reminders about bringing books back, its big, its quiet, it catalogue is easy to use, etc. I think it could have more copies of some of the music books though.

Are you an active member of any societies?

Yes

If yes, please name the societies

Dance society Players

Why do you enjoy being a member of this society? why should a prospective student think of joining this society?

Players has some incredible plays on and those involved in acting and directing seem to all have an incredible social life and a brilliant time. It might be one of the best societies for making friends. Definitely join. The dancing society is great because they do 2-euro hip-hop classes once a week. The only other drop in hip hop classes in Dublin cost 12 euro each time you go.

Are you a member of any sports clubs?

No

Would you recommend getting involved in college sport?

Yes

Why?

All my friends that have got involved in a sport in college have travelled to loads of different countries made tons of friends and kept fit. I'm definitely joining a sports club next year.

How much do you spend on living every week (going out, food, transport etc.), excluding rent and bills?

€60-80

Do you or have you lived away from home during college?

Yes

How much does your rent cost per month?

€350-450

As a first year did you live in college halls?

Yes

Would you recommend living in college halls?

Yes. I hated it at the start, and I didn't think I made many friends but this year I’ve found that I made a lot more friends than I realised. It is like living in a bubble but its an amazing experience and probably the only time in you life when you’re living around hundreds of people the same age as you and all potential friends.
