Why did you choose to study in this college?

I chose my course because i have always had a desire to work in the tourism industry and help improve the slipping standards within the Irish tourism market.I chose to study at Sligo IT because it was close to home and had good facilites. I also knew people who have studied there and was told it was very good.

Are you happy with your choice of course?

On reflection, what made it the right or wrong choice for you?

i feel that this was the right choice because the course covers a wide range of topics and areas relevent to the modern tourism market. I find it to be up to date and interesting and has a gradual learning curve which takes away much of the inital preassure of addapting to collage life.

How many hours of organised classes do you have per week?

Are your lectures/labs mainly based on or off the main campus?

Is your course weighted more on continuous assessment or end of year exams?

Continuous assessment

Is there an option to study abroad on your course?

I don't know

What are your favourite aspects of your course?

I enjoy the marketing a lot. For much of the year there are fieldtrips to visit tourism attractions at least once a week which i looked forward to. Spanish was also enjoyable and very interactive. The course allowed groups and individuals to express their creativity through a selection of projects aimed at exploring the tourism market and the business end of tourism. My personal favourite aspet of the course was the interaction in class between students and lecturers in discussing and exploring the coursework.

What are your least favourite aspects of your course?

i found the communications module very vague. Not because of the teacher but more because of the fact that it took the best part of 3 months to figure out what the hell it was about and because there was only 2 hours a week dedicated to it and should the teacher miss a class due to illness, it was very easy to lose all interest. I enjoyed the excursion end of the course as stated above, but did not enjoy the lack of explanation sometimes as to why exactly some activities were taking place. I hated the excess of free periods which are fine for those who live locally, but for those who drive 20 odd miles and are stuck in sligo till there last lecture this can be a major pain and sucks enjoyment from the course.

Was your course what you expected?

What do you wish you had known before choosing this course?

I wish i had known about the amount of free time.

For the most part i think they are excellent. Plenty of seating, plugs, 3 different levels for different uses, good amount of computers and printers and plenty of study materials available. It is not the best spot if you are in a wheelchair and needs improving. Sharp corners, lack of passing space ect make it tricky for an able person to navigate the tables in places and i have seen people waiting at the elevator after calling it for more than 10 minutes because the upstairs reception did not hear buzzer.
