Why did you choose to study in this college?

I had completed a course before in a different subject area, but had always been interested in children's formative years. I chose IT Sligo as it was close by and the commute was not too long.

Are you happy with your choice of course?

On reflection, what made it the right or wrong choice for you?

This course was most definitely the correct choice for me, as it was very in-depth and coupled with theoretical knowledge and work placement; I am now able to relate theory to practice.

How many hours of organised classes do you have per week?

Are your lectures/labs mainly based on or off the main campus?

Is your course weighted more on continuous assessment or end of year exams?

Continuous assessment

Is there an option to study abroad on your course?

If you studied abroad, is there any advice you would give someone looking to study abroad?

I did not study abroad.

What are your favourite aspects of your course?

I thoroughly enjoy the physchology aspect of our course, and aspects that relate to child development, in particular the importance of play in children's formative years.

What are your least favourite aspects of your course?

My least favourite part of the course are the sociological aspects as the theory can be hard to understand.

Was your course what you expected?

What do you wish you had known before choosing this course?

I wish that it had been made clearer the type of job opportunities that would be accessible to students having completed the course, and the options for further study.

I believe that as our course is relatively new, there are not a sufficient number of books on diverse subjects, nor enough copies of those books. It seems that there is also a lack of photocopying facilities. It would be beneficial to have a system whereby it is possible to print on campus via your own laptop in order to minimise queuing for library computers. I welcome the addition of the social learning area and also the conference rooms in order to complete group work.

The college is small but not too small. It is easy to get to know other students and the lecturers are very friendly and helpful.
