Why did you choose to study in this college?

I am a practical person, I don't sit and read to obtain knowledge ever, I obtain knowledge from experience and physical interaction with whatever it is I am doing. I personally love design, art, graphics, digital media, etc and the realisation that I can do this in IT cried out to me. The course I am in at the minute is extremely practical, all the programs we use to do our class work or assignments are programs we physically use ourselves, we don’t just read about them. it’s a brilliant “Hands on” approach in my opinion

Are you happy with your choice of course?

On reflection, what made it the right or wrong choice for you?

To be honest, it wasn’t looking good for me for a while; I came very close to leaving earlier in the year because of the “common course” idea that was forced upon us all. We had to do a number of additional subjects which did not interest or appeal to me or my classmates in the slightest and some of which had the heaviest workload, so I spend the majority of my time doing massive assignments for a subject I would never look at in a few weeks. Luckily I stuck it out as I am basically finished now! :) (bar a few exams obviously!) But I am hoping that next year will be more concentrated on what I wanted to do in the first place and a lot better and that I then can safely say it was the right choice!

How many hours of organised classes do you have per week?

Are your lectures/labs mainly based on or off the main campus?

Is your course weighted more on continuous assessment or end of year exams?

Continuous assessment

Is there an option to study abroad on your course?

I don't know

What are your favourite aspects of your course?

The timetable! I get very bored of the same old same old routine that we all get stuck in at some stage. It sounds daft but I love the layout of our class times! Having the odd morning with an hour or two off, and the odd evening where we finish early, big gaps in between classes, it gives me time to do other things bar college stuff but also comes in very handy for study, or trying to finish the assignment which was due the day before! It just allows us as student to hold on to that bit of freedom before we all get sucked into the 38 hour week which will be with us until we retire!

What are your least favourite aspects of your course?

The “common first year thing," granted its' a good idea in some way, but to me and all my piers it was a pure nuisance! Why should I spend the majority of my time worrying about something I'm forced to “try". even if it was just until Christmas it wouldn’t be so bad, but there are one or two subjects I hate doing and am not great at, and if I have to repeat because of them, chances are I won’t bother,. It’s just so unfair in my opinion; it’s pretty much the same thing as going to a restaurant, ordering a steak, and being served a salmon fillet because the waiter wants you to try it in case you change your mind!!

Was your course what you expected?

What do you wish you had known before choosing this course?

I wish I had obtained a better knowledge or Adobe Photoshop, it plays such a huge role in the course and is very, very tricky to use until you get the hang of it. I also would have liked to have known about the common first year as I would have thought twice and on deciding to still continue I could have gone into it all with a better attitude.

You’re winning there! Couches!! Thank god, a bit of comfort when you’re stuck in a laptop for 6 or 8 hours, the only thing concerning me is why is there no toilets?? Laptop, bags, books, pens, drinks, iPods, jackets, and more of the necessities you bring in with you have to be all gathered up before you leave for the jacks, and I know you don’t have to, but I personally wouldn’t chance leaving my stuff lying around! But all in all, it’s a fabulous area and an ideal spot for a bit of comfort and study.
