Why did you choose your course?

One of the main factors in choosing this course was speaking to the lecturers on the open day. They were very friendly, patient and answered all my questions. I felt learning in IT Sligo would be relaxed and informal and that suits my personality well.
Also, as a student with a disability it was extremely important to me to feel like I could approach lecturers at any time with a health related problems if an issue arose. After meeting with lecturers in IT Sligo, I felt happy that it would be the best college for to attend.

Are you happy with your choice of course?

Yes

On reflection, what made it the right or wrong choice for you?

One of the advantages of attending a smaller college is the smaller class sizes. This definitely suits me more so than being in a larger lecture hall where it can be more difficult to communicate with the lecturer.

The course itself has been great so far. There has been a real variety in subjects and the common first year allowed students to swap course at the beginning of second year.

The lecturers have always been very approachable and enthusiastic and this has made the learning experience more enjoyable for everybody.

How many hours of organised classes do you have per week? (labs, tutorials, lectures, etc)

16-20hrs

Are your lectures/labs mainly based on or off the main campus?

On

Is your course weighted more on

Continuous assessment

Is there an option to study abroad on your course?

No

What are your favourite aspects of your course?

I like the lab classes because we get to put the theory into practice and it feels like we are being prepared for the types of scenarios we will encounter in the working world.

All the subjects have a big continuous assessment element and this really takes the pressure off for the end of year exams.

This year (3rd year) we will spend several months on workplacement and that is not an option that all other colleges offer.

I share subjects with software development and systems & networking. This has been really good because I get to mix with lots of students even though my own class is quite small.

What are your least favourite aspects of your course?

I would have liked the opportunity to pick elective subjects but that is not an option.

Some of the computer rooms need to be upgraded.

Was your course what you expected?

Yes

Why?

The library at IT Sligo is new and is perfect for computing students because there are power sockets everywhere for laptops and the quiet area upstairs are good when quiet study is needed.

Is there a good social life on your course?

No

Please describe

the social aspect within computing probably isn't as good as some of the other departments in the college. Computing is one of the smaller faculties and I imagine that is why. We do have class parties from time to time and I've found other students to be friendly and supportive throughout my time at IT Sligo.
