Why did you choose your course?

I chose to study marketing-pr and events management because i felt that it was a very broad course which offered me a number of career opportunities be it with sales of organizing events. It too offers a degree which is recognized throughout the world which I feel is useful to graduates that may want to migrate to other countries when finished college.

Are you happy with your choice of course?

Yes

On reflection, what made it the right or wrong choice for you?

I feel i chose the right choice in studying the course because when initially entering the course I wasn't quite sure what area of Business I wanted to branch off into and with first year having the same subjects I got a feeling for the specific area in which I would like to further my studies. You have a year to decide therefore I wasn't under any pressure and could take time to think it through unlike so many other courses that are not as varied.

How many hours of organised classes do you have per week? (labs, tutorials, lectures, etc)

11-15hrs

Are your lectures/labs mainly based on or off the main campus?

On

Is your course weighted more on

End of year exams

Is there an option to study abroad on your course?

Yes

What are your favourite aspects of your course?

My favorite aspects in the course would have to be how approciable the lecturers are and how much they show an interest in your success. They know you by name not by number and if you are having any difficulties they are always there to help you. I also like how you have a say in the subjects you choose and you can pick the most appealing to you.

What are your least favourite aspects of your course?

My least favorite aspects would have to be how intense the continuous assessments are. You may have ab assessment in computer applications and another one in communications due for the same day. This can become stressful but as long as you keep on top of things and work on the assessments as you get them this becomes much easier to manage.

Was your course what you expected?

Yes

What do you wish you had known before choosing this course?

I wish I had known the level of Business Maths as I did foundation maths for my leaving cert. The level of maths was a bit higher but saying that I got a distinction in my summer exams so with a bit of study it caan easily be passed.

Why?

The library facilities are fantastic since the opened the new Yeats library in the college, their is a huge selection of books and journals to help you with your projects and the wi-fi on campus is very fast and sufficient. The staff in the library are very helpful if you have any queries and with the new scanner machine put in place it means that only students form IT Sligo can access the facilities therefore their is much more room.

Is there a good social life on your course?

Yes

Please describe

There is a excellent medium between social life and academic life. The class reps are constantly organizing outings for the students and arranging fun activity days out. For example last year we went to Carrick con Shannon for a night out and it was great because we knew all our class mates and still got to mix with the locals and make new friends.

Are you an active member of any societies?

Yes

If yes, please name the societies

I am a member of the hip hop dance club.

Why do you enjoy being a member of this society? why should a prospective student think of joining this society?

I enjoy being a member of the hip hop dance club because I get to interact and socialize with other students of the campus and make more friends from different years. We also go on nights out and perform for others.

Are you a member of any sports clubs?

No

How much do you spend on living every week (going out, food, transport etc.), excluding rent and bills?

€40-60

Do you or have you lived away from home during college?

Yes

How much does your rent cost per month?

€350-450

As a first year did you live in college halls?

Yes

Would you recommend living in college halls?

Yes I would defiantly recommend living in student accommodation as you get to make new friends with different people and if you are not very outgoing this is one way to meet new people because after all everyone is in the same boat and everyone will want to meet new people.

If yes, where and why?

I wouldn't recommend living in an estate house even though the rent may be a little cheaper their is no security and you wont get to meet as many new students. Also by living in student accommodation all your bills are paid for you which means one last thing to worry about.

How would you recommend this college to a friend?

I would recommend IT Sligo to a friend by saying that it is a lovely college for both social and academic life. with it being a nice size new students can easily find their bearings within a few days and it is very easy to make new friends and the lecturers are very friendly and appreciable. It is cheaper to study at than other collages and close to the town center which is convenient to everyone.
