Are you happy with your choice of course?

Yes

Why?

I absolutely love studying BA(hons)Early Childhood Care and Education. Ever snce qualifying as a Childcare Worker over 20 years ago in Scotland I have been interested in child development. Having young children, I found returning to education part time was perfect to maintain a family/ study balance.

How many hours of organised classes do you have per week? (labs, tutorials, lectures, etc)

16-20hrs

Are your lectures/labs mainly based on or off the main campus?

Off

If off campus, does this affect you and how?

This enables me to study whilst staying home for the children since there is noe work out there.

Is your course weighted more on

Continuous assessment

Is there an option to study abroad on your course?

Yes

What are your favourite aspects of your course?

My favourite aspects are that I can study to improve my career prospects and be at home with the children most of the time. I only need to be on campus 2 full days every 2 weeks.
At the beginning of the semester we know what to have completed by a certain date.

What are your least favourite aspects of your course?

The work load has as much content as a full time course.

The fees are high and there is no further financial support. I am unsure that I can continue with my study as I cannot afford the fees as well as childcare. I am devastated as I have discovered that I can do it.

Was your course what you expected?

Yes

What do you wish you had known before choosing this course?

That there is no financial support for part time courses.

Helpful leaving cert (or equivalent) subjects?

I qualified as a Nursery Nurse (SNNB) in Scotland 20 years ago.

Library facilities

Yeats library is fantastic. The college ebrary is incredibly helpful as I am not on campus

Is there a good social life on your course?

No

Please describe

There could be a good social life but myself and my husband are both mature students with young children so do not partake in the social aspects of college life.

Are you an active member of any societies?

No

Are you a member of any sports clubs?

No

Are your training facilities easily accessible?

Yes

Are your training facilities at a good standard?

Yes

Would you recommend getting involved in college sport?

Not for me

Why?

I have little time between study and family life.

Weekly living expenses?

€200+

Do you or have you lived away from home during college?

Yes

How much does your rent cost per month?

€250-350

As a first year did you live in college halls?

No

Where would you recommend students live?

I would recommend living close to campus to keep expenses low and if necessary students can stay in the library till late without worrying about public transport. If you like a busy social life stay in the student areas but if you have a family or like a quiet life then look for a quieter area.

How would you recommend this college to a friend?

The library is to die for. There are always students in there using the facilities from the computers to function rooms. All staff are there for each and every student to give guidance. Lecturers from my course have been exceptional with their recent support following my difficult predicament of whether I can continue my course or not. It seems like they actually care instead of "just doing their job"
Great choice of courses with many possiblilites for distance learning, part time or full time.
